The next list of settings are used for
the Para Parametric Microphone Equalizer. These settings are engaged when using
the Speech Processor in the FT-2000.
Note: With any outboard EQ audio
gear, this is not recommended. However, if you are just using the radio, set Mic
Gain 10 o'clock and PROC 9 o'clock. Make sure that you stay within the ALC zone
and keep several inches between your lips and the mic.

Quick
Setup tips:
Put mic (audio) into #15 in rear using an RCA plug. Then Menu 082 is set on "front"(this enables you to achieve 50 hz to 3.5 kHz on transmit).
Put the WIDTH control all the way to the
right (clockwise) and put the SHIFT in the center. The WIDTH meter will
have all the green LED's lit and this enables you to receive out to 4
kHz.
If using a footswitch to key the radio,
put RCA plug into #14 PTT Jack.
Menu 030, Change it from "off" to "on", for Memory Groups.
Menu 061, Change it from "ofset" to "dir" (this is to keep the Frequency readout the same when you change from USB to LSB).
Menu 144, Change from "diS" to "EnA" ( this enables you to use the LINEAR AMP).
Linear RCA plug goes into #20 in rear.
Record mini plug goes into #22 in rear (AF OUT).
Power Master Watt/SWR Meter: 13.8 vdc goes into #21 in the rear.
These are the most
important settings to start with.

W2IHY 8 Band EQ
and EQ Plus info:
If using the W2IHY 8 Band EQ and the EQ Plus, it is highly recommended to also use the W2IHY I-Box (pad down transformer).
8 Band

| Range | Setting |
| 50hz | +12 |
| 100hz | +6 |
| 200hz | 0 |
| 400hz | -4 |
| 800hz | -16 |
| 1600hz | +6 |
| 2400hz | +10 |
| 3200hz | +12 |
EQ Plus:
| Range | Setting |
| Bass | 3 o'clock |
| Treble | 2 o'clock |
| Compressor | 12 o'clock |
| DE Level | 2 o'clock |
| Impedence | 200 (down position) |
| Delay | Fully counterclockwise |
| Effect Level | 10 o'clock |
| Effects Switch | Up |
Note: the W2IHY I-Plus is presently
being Beta tested by K3UR and it will allow you to operate up to (3) different
radios. It will replace the I-Box and has a pad down transformer. It allows direct keying of linear amp for
3 separate radiosa It also has PTT, stereo speaker setup and separate inputs of 5 pin din and also XLR. The (3) audio outs are all 5
pin din.
Start with a good mic (I use the
Heil PR-40). Use good headphones (I use the Sony MDR-V900) and monitor yourself. As you can see, I do use the internal EQ on the FT-2000
but I do NOT use the Processor. Contact me for an "on the air" QSO, recording and graphing of your audio and I will email you the before and after
mp3 files and the SpectraPlus graphs of your audio. Thank you.
